The Hotel & Conference Center is located in one of the oldest townships in Pennsylvania, on a site that played an important role in our nation’s history.

In May 1778, George Washington sent 2,200 men from the Continental’s Army encampment in Valley Forge to conduct reconnaissance on British positions outside of Philadelphia. A young, 20-year-old Marquis de Lafayette commanded the men and led them across the Schuylkill River to set up camp on Barren Hill. The British quickly learned of the excursion and sent 5,000 men to surround and capture Lafayette’s troops traveling by the river. Once aware of the British advance, Lafayette sent patrols to attack and delay the enemy while the rest of the troops retreated undetected along Barren Hill Road, a path unknown to the British. Accordingly, the area was renamed Lafayette Hill for the Marquis’s decisive action.
