Support Local Restaurants: Manayunk Edition

Dec 10

For now, the focus of our blog is to highlight the dynamic local businesses in our surrounding neighborhoods and explore all wealth of delicious options in our area. So far, we dove headfirst into the rich food and restaurant landscapes of Chestnut Hill and Conshohocken. Today, it is time for our next virtual neighborhood spotlight and this time it is Manayunk!

Manayunk is located in the lower northwest section of Philadelphia and contains the first canal begun in the United States. The neighborhood is a mélange of old, new, trendy and traditional. There are folks who lived her for generations, undergrads and grad students, young families and an ever-changing mix of 20-somethings populating the hills of rowhomes, loft apartments, and Victorian single-family homes.

The main drag, Main Street, is known for its buzzing restaurant and bar scene. And after spending the last months trying to survive with limited take-out and delivery service, restaurateurs are happy to offer a mix of outdoor and indoor dining again. Check out the listed restaurants below and consider supporting a local business while enjoying a delicious meal to go, that for once, hasn’t been cooked at home.

Art-lovers are recommended to head over to the Artesano Café, a brand-new coffee shop connected to the Artesano Gallery. Guests have the option to grab a cup of coffee, paired with a homemade pastry and to sit outside in the beautiful courtyard before walking around the gallery inside.

Looking for a spot to refuel after your bike ride along the Schuylkill River Trail? Manayunk Brewery is known for its extensive beer list including some in-house made options like the Monk From The Yunk and the Manayunk Brown Ale. Patrons are also coming back for the waterfront deck and the food, ranging from burgers to brick oven pizza to sushi.

Brunch-lovers certainly do not want to miss Winnie’s, the go-to-place for comfort food and locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant’s weekend brunch menu boasts delicious breakfast entrées such as Avocado Toast, Buttermilk Pancakes, Chicken and Waffle Bennie, Roasted Beet Salad, and more.

For a more elevated dinner, you can’t miss at Jake’s and Cooper’s Wine Bar, one of Manayunk’s longest running local businesses. From Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes to Hanger Steak and Lemon Ricotta Ravioli, there is something on the menu for everyone. Don’t forget to try a delicious red wine from their extensive wine list.

Fans of Mexican cuisine can get their quac on at Taqueria “Feliz” Amor. The restaurant offers an array of tacos, signature guacamoles, enchiladas, and fajitas made with fresh and high-quality ingredients. P.S. We recommend checking out their Margarita and Tequila menu.

The Goats-Beard, Manayunk’s bold and domestic whiskey and craft beer bar, is notorious for its American cuisine focusing on locally sourced products. Here, diners can look forward to fresh dishes including Charred Smoked Turkey Melt, Coconut Curry, TGB Smash Burger, Fish Tacos, and more. The restaurant also offers drink pouches to-go.

Last but not least, food-lovers can’t go wrong with a Vietnamese Banh Mi, Spring Rolls or a Vermicelli Platter made with rice noodles, grilled meats, fresh vegetables and nuts, at Main Street Pho. The restaurant is currently open from Tuesday-Sunday from 11:30 am to 9 pm.
